Chinese-style goulash

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 400 g beef
  • 4 potatoes
  • 3 carrots
  • 3 spring onions
  • 4 slices of ginger
  • 2 star anise
  • 2 dashes of soy sauce
  • 1 shot of oil
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 pinch(s) of sugar
  • 1 shot of wine, e.g., dry sherry

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 2 hours; Total time approx. 2 hours 15 minutes

Cut the beef into pieces. Peel and finely chop the potatoes, carrots, and ginger. Also finely chop the spring onions. Sear the beef until crisp. Then add the spring onions, ginger, and star anise and fry everything together, then briefly deglaze with a splash of wine. Add the soy sauce and season the mixture with pepper. Add the sugar. Add enough hot water to cover the meat. Now simmer everything on low heat for 1 hour. Then add the potatoes and carrots. Simmer the goulash for another 30-40 minutes, season with salt, and reduce the sauce if desired.
