Chlorella Lowers Cholesterol Levels

As early as 1975, a study proved that patients with high cholesterol levels could successfully lower them by taking chlorella. In 1987, animal experiments were able to prove that Chlorella Vulgaris can normalize blood lipid levels overall and at the same time strengthen the artery walls.

Chlorella pyrenoidosa had a particularly positive effect on cholesterol levels by lowering the LDL value (the so-called bad cholesterol). Both types of chlorella therefore have an undoubtedly positive effect on the cardiovascular system.

Chlorella Vulgaris and Chlorella pyrenoidosa are two of the best-known and most intensively studied Chlorella species.

Chlorella reduces fat absorption

A study from 2005 provided an explanation for the regulation of blood lipid levels in connection with the intake of Chlorella pyrenoidosa.

It was found that the alga significantly reduces the release of fats into the blood. Instead, they are increasingly excreted through the dam.

In another study from 2008, scientists at the Women’s University in South Korea investigated whether a similar effect could be observed with Chlorella Vulgaris.

Significant improvement in blood lipid levels

In this study, male rats were put on a diet with varying amounts of fat. In one control group, the fat percentage was normal, while in the other it correspondingly increased.

At the same time, the animals received either 5 percent or 10 percent Chlorella Vulgaris in addition to their feed – based on their total amount of feed. One of the control groups did not receive the algae.

The result was recorded after nine weeks. In the animals that received the high-fat diet in combination with chlorella, it was found that the level of triglycerides and cholesterol in the blood and liver was significantly lower than that of the control group that was fed without chlorella.

The lower chlorella dose of 5% also resulted in a significant improvement in fat levels.

Fats are excreted through the intestines

Triglycerides and cholesterol, which were ultimately excreted in the stool, were also significantly higher in all chlorella groups (both with the normal and with the high-fat diet) than in the groups without chlorella administration.

Overall, the study was able to clearly demonstrate that taking chlorella (both Vulgaris and pyrenoidosa) reduces the absorption of triglycerides and cholesterol and at the same time increases their excretion through the intestines.

Chlorella helps regulate metabolism

Chlorella’s property of binding and excreting excessive fat intake makes it clear that taking Chlorella is a sensible measure to prevent and regulate lipid metabolism disorders.

In the case of a lipid metabolism disease, the algae should ideally be used to accompany therapy.

The scientists involved in the studies suspected that the effect of chlorella in relation to the regulation of fat metabolism is due to its high fiber content.

A low-fiber diet is considered a key risk factor for cardiovascular disease.

But the risk of obesity, gastrointestinal diseases, and even colon cancer also increases significantly with a lack of fiber. Chlorella can make a significant contribution to keeping the body healthy.

In addition to its high fiber content, the chlorella algae have a remarkably balanced nutrient and vital substance profile.

This suggests that the body’s increased ability to regulate as a result has an effect on many different levels and can therefore also have a positive effect on the regulation of cholesterol levels.
