simple cookies

Cream the softened butter with the sugar until fluffy, gradually adding the eggs and continuing to beat. Mix the flour with the spices and baking powder. Then, sift this mixture and combine it with the remaining ingredients, except the hazelnuts, to form a smooth dough. The dough must now rest in the refrigerator for at least two hours, preferably overnight. Preheat the oven to 160°C (fan oven). Roll out the cookie dough thinly on a well-floured work surface. Then, cut out the cookies into “little man” shapes using a cookie cutter. The little man’s face can be easily drawn with a toothpick, but it is also sufficient to make two dots for the eyes and one for the mouth. Place a hazelnut kernel on each little man and wrap it around the man’s arms. The cookies need about 11–14 minutes in the preheated oven, depending on the oven and the desired degree of browning. After baking, let the cookies cool completely on a wire rack. Tip: These cookies make great gifts.
