Cough syrup with honey, suitable for children 12 years and older

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 200 ml water
  • 1 tsp thyme, dried
  • 1 tbsp sage, dried
  • 1 tbsp ribwort plantain, dried
  • 1 onion(s)
  • 100 g honey

Instructions

Working time approx. 5 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 5 minutes; Total time approx. 10 minutes

Place the water in a pot, add the dried herbs, and bring everything to a boil with a peeled and diced onion. Simmer for about 5 minutes. Allow to cool to lukewarm. In the meantime, pour the honey (e.g., rapeseed honey) into a bottle. Strain the herbal brew and pour it into the bottle while still lukewarm. Add 1 teaspoon of cough syrup as needed. The syrup will keep in a screw-top bottle in the refrigerator for at least a week. The ingredients are organic and available at health food stores. Since the dried ingredients are only suitable for ages 12 and up, I’ve noted this here, although our children were given this when they were 10. It’s not brewed as a tea, but processed into a small amount for cough syrup. Our children liked this syrup the only way they liked it; they didn’t like any of the other juices.
