Peel the papaya with the vegetable peeler

The best time to buy papayas is between October and May. Make sure that the fruits are really ripe – that’s when they taste best. You can recognize ripe papaya by the fact that its color changes from green to yellow.

  • So that you can process the fruit well, you should peel it with a vegetable peeler. This allows you to thinly but completely remove the skin. If you don’t like the slightly bitter taste under the skin, consider peeling the papaya more generously.
  • When peeling, remove the ends of the papaya as well. You can also do this easily with a vegetable peeler or knife.

Halve the papaya and remove the seeds

Before you can eat the fruit, you have to remove the pits. You don’t have to throw them away though, as they can easily be converted into a spice.

  • If you cut the papaya in half, you can take a tablespoon and scoop out the seeds from inside.
  • The kernels are edible, which is why you can process them further. They taste similar to cress and are primarily intended to support the digestive tract.
  • So that the papaya seeds can be ground particularly well, they should be laid out on a baking sheet with paper and baked at 100 degrees for around 10 minutes.
