Dal with chicken and almonds

Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 2 tbsp, heaped clarified butter
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1 vegetable onion(s), finely chopped
  • 2 chili peppers, green, fresh, pitted, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • ½ tsp cumin powder
  • 150 g lentils, red
  • 1 tbsp, heaped tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 600 ml chicken broth with meat, fresh or from the jar
  • 50 g almonds, chopped, roasted
  • Sugar
  • Salt and pepper, black

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 15 minutes

First, brown the garlic, onions, chilies, and spices in oil. Add the lentils, tomato paste, and ketchup and mix well. Then add the chicken broth and bring to a boil. Stir frequently. Season to taste and simmer covered over low heat for another 45 minutes, until the lentils are tender. Stir frequently. Season again and stir in the almonds.
