Dhaltjies / Chilli Bites
The perfect dhaltjies / chilli bites recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.
- 1 Onion
- 1 Clove of garlic
- 2 big handful Spinach leaves
- 1 Tufts Corriander
- 120 g Wheat flour
- 120 g Chickpea flour
- 1 tsp Cumin
- 1 tsp Ground corriander
- 1 tsp Fennel seeds (ground)
- 1 tsp Garam masala
- 1 tsp Turmeric
- 1 tsp Chilli powder
- 1 tsp Baking powder
- 0,5 tsp Salt
- Oil for deep-frying
- Peel and finely dice the onion and garlic. Wash and roughly chop the corriander and spinach.
- Combine all ingredients except the oil for deep-frying in a bowl. Add enough water to make a soft dough.
- Let the dough rest for about 30 minutes.
- Heat the oil in a saucepan and add about the amount of a teaspoon of batter. When the dough is golden brown, remove it with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel. Repeat this as often as necessary until the dough is used up.
