Does soy (e.g. daily tofu consumption) lower the testosterone level and is therefore counterproductive for muscle building and potency? There are conflicting statements about the effect on men on the Internet.
Soy and the products made from it have a high nutrient density and, in addition to high-quality protein, also contain phytoestrogens (hormone-like substances). These have a number of positive health effects, but also repeatedly lead to uncertainty. The rumor persists that phytoestrogens from soy have a negative effect on men’s hormone balance. The alleged consequences are said to be reduced fertility and a “feminization” of the male body.
Current scientific data does not confirm such concerns about soy in human nutrition. On the contrary, current studies show that regular soy consumption has many positive effects and e.g. is very likely to reduce the risk of breast and prostate cancer. A preventive effect on cardiovascular diseases is assumed. Concerns about the possible effects of phytoestrogens on men’s hormonal balance could be dispelled. There is nothing wrong with consuming the usual amounts of soy every day, i.e. one to three servings. As a portion e.g. 100 grams of tofu or 250 milliliters of soy drink.
