Dried Apple Rings – Delicious Snack

The apple is number one among fruit tarts. Fruit is no longer bought and consumed or processed. One of the types of processing is drying or desiccation. Here, a large part of the water contained in the fruit is extracted. This happens in large ovens with the supply of warm air. If you want to make apple rings yourself, you can easily do this in the non-preheated oven. Simply dry the peeled or unpeeled rings at 50-60°C for 4-5 hours. Leave the oven door slightly open so that the moisture can escape.

Origin

From its original homeland between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, the apple has spread to all continents over the course of thousands of years. In Germany it is the most popular fruit. Incidentally, the apple tree belongs to the rose family.

Season

Dried apple rings are available all year round.

Taste

Dried apples taste sweeter than fresh apples due to the higher concentration of sugar.

Use

Dried apple rings are great for snacking between meals. They are a good substitute for confectionery. They are also suitable for pastries with dried fruit (fruit bread). Also delicious in muesli and in homemade muesli bars. They are a classic ingredient in mixed baked fruit.

Storage

It is best to store the dried fruit in a cool (7-10 °C) and dry place. However, storage in the refrigerator is not recommended because the humidity there is too high. Closable, opaque cans are best.

Durability

If stored properly, dried apple rings can be kept for up to 2 years. Sulphurised fruit has a longer shelf life than unsulphurised ones. The warmer the storage location, the shorter the shelf life.
