Drying Papaya Seeds: This Is the Best Way to Proceed

There are different ways to dry papaya seeds that take different amounts of time. It is definitely worth drying the kernels because they contain important vitamins and enzymes and are good for seasoning.

Air dry papaya seeds

You should always keep and dry papaya seeds because they contain many enzymes and vitamins that are good for our health. Drying the kernels makes them last longer and won’t mold, so you can store them in an airtight container. How to proceed if you want to air dry papaya seeds:

  1. In order to be able to air dry papaya seeds, you should find a dry and warm place outdoors. Make sure the weather is ideal for this. Alternatively, you can also dry the kernels in a well-ventilated room with a temperature between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius. It is important that the place to dry is not damp.
  2. First cut the papaya in half with a knife to get to the core inside the fruit.
  3. Now remove all the seeds from the papaya and remove the pulp thoroughly so that nothing sticks to the core.
  4. Get a kitchen towel and put the papaya seeds on it. Make sure there is enough space between the cores so that air can get everywhere.
  5. Place the kitchen towel with the papaya seeds in the sun so that the seeds can dry out.
  6. It now takes about two to three days for the papaya seeds to dry completely. Depending on the weather and solar radiation, the period can also vary.
  7. You can then put the kernels in an airtight container for storage. This can be a can or a pepper mill, with which you can season and refine your food.

Dry the papaya seeds in the oven

If you want to go faster, you can also dry the papaya seeds in your oven:

  1. To start, preheat your oven to 50 degrees Celsius. Place parchment paper on the baking tray where the seeds will later dry.
  2. Halve the papaya and remove all the seeds. Thoroughly remove the flesh from the papaya seeds.
  3. Put the cleaned seeds on the prepared baking tray, so that there is enough space between the individual papaya seeds.
  4. Now place the baking tray in the preheated oven and make sure that the oven door is slightly open. This allows the moisture in the kernels to be channeled to the outside.
  5. It is best to put a wooden spoon between the oven door so that it stays open. This allows the moisture to escape and the kernels are dried well.
  6. Now leave the papaya seeds in the oven for two to three hours until they are completely dry.
  7. Then allow the kernels to cool before storing them in an airtight container.

Dry the papaya seeds in the dehydrator

If you have a dehydrator, you can also use it to dry the papaya seeds:

  • Halve the papaya and remove the seeds inside. Thoroughly remove the flesh from them before drying them.
  • First dry the papaya seeds with a kitchen towel.
  • Put the kernels on the grate of the dehydrator and spread them out with enough space between them.
  • Now let the seeds dry in the dehydrator for three hours. Make sure the temperature does not exceed 40 degrees. It doesn’t have to be rotated because the papaya seeds dry relatively quickly.
  • After three hours, the cores are now dry and can be stored airtight.
