Easter ham

Spread the love

Ingredients for 10 servings:

  • 3 kg ham, lightly smoked
  • 4 bay leaves
  • 15 peppercorns
  • 3 m.-sized onion(s)
  • 10 carnations
  • 15 juniper berries
  • 8 grains of allspice
  • 1 tbsp mustard seeds
  • n. B. water

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 3 hours; Total time approx. 3 hours 15 minutes

Wrap the ham tightly in aluminum foil. Then place it in a pot that’s not too large (the ham should just fit). Pour in cold water. The ham should just be covered with water. Then add the spices. These are approximate amounts, as tastes vary. Depending on the size of the ham, let it simmer on the stovetop for about 2-3 hours, just below boiling point. Do not boil, or the ham will dry out. Let it cool in the liquid. Only slice it when it’s completely cool. Serve with horseradish, soft-boiled Easter eggs, and Easter bread.
