Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 300 g cheese (Gruyère)
  • 200 g bacon
  • 2 shallots
  • 2 sprigs basil
  • 2 sprigs of marjoram
  • 2 sprigs of parsley
  • 2 eggs
  • pepper
  • 6 stalk(s) baguette(s), for baking
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 1 clove(s) garlic
  • Salt

For the filling, coarsely grate the cheese and finely dice the bacon. Chop the shallots and herbs. Place everything in a bowl, mix with the eggs and spices, and season to taste. Cut a deep wedge lengthwise from the top of the baguette rolls (you can also use small rolls, but make more of them, of course) (then roll them into breadcrumbs). Mix together the tomato paste, oil, crushed garlic cloves, salt, and pepper. Spread this mixture over the inside of the bread and fill with the cheese mixture. Bake the bread in a preheated oven at 225°C (425°F) for about 15 minutes. Wrap in aluminum foil (or similar) for a picnic.
