Ingredients for 2 servings:
- 4 pieces of fish (red mullet)
- 3 cloves garlic
- 10 tbsp oil (olive oil)
- ½ lemon(s)
- 2 pinches of basil
Instructions
Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes
First, scale and gut the whole red mullet, making sure to only cut open the bottom carefully. Then, wash thoroughly and pat dry. It’s best to wrap them in tea towels and wait 1-2 hours until dry, then brush them inside and out with olive oil. Brush the marinade, consisting of basil, crushed garlic, and about 4 tablespoons of olive oil, which you prepared beforehand to allow the flavor to fully develop, over and into the fish until evenly distributed. Then, fry each side of the fish in a pan for about 3 minutes. If the mullet is a bit thicker, add another minute, and serve with lemon! They taste even better grilled, but never remove them from the grill, as these small fish cook very quickly. Leave the head on for visual appeal. Enjoy!
