Spread the love

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 2 pumpkins (gem squash)
  • 1 some salt
  • e.g. butter
  • n. B. water

Instructions

Working time approx. 5 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 25 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Gem Pumpkin, Squash, Squashys

Briefly rinse the gem squash, then halve them. Place them in a saucepan, cut edge facing up. Add enough water so that the cut edges are just above the water level. Add a pinch of salt to the water and boil for about 20-25 minutes (as with potatoes, reduce the heat after the first boil and tilt the lid). Then remove the seeds with a teaspoon. They should come out very easily. Add a dollop of butter and a little salt to each half. Serve in the skins as a side dish with potatoes and pan-fried meat. Can also be pre-cooked and then placed on the grill. The flavor is slightly nutty and quite creamy. A true South African delicacy that is unfortunately not always available here.
