Gluten-Free Rolls – Simply Bake Them Yourself

If you want to bake gluten-free rolls, you have to use alternative types of flour made from corn, rice, or oats. Find out how easy gluten-free baking can be in our article.

Gluten-Free Buns: Easy recipe

In principle, you bake with gluten-free flour in a similar way to conventional flour. Note, however, that it may behave differently when baked due to the lack of glue gluten.

For a simple recipe that yields about eight buns, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 200 grams of rice or corn flour
  • 100 grams of cornstarch
  • 100 grams of potato flour
  • 12 grams locust bean gum or ground psyllium husk (as a gluten substitute)
  • 1 packet of gluten-free baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 gram of baking soda
  • 400ml of water
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar (ideally apple cider vinegar)
  • 50 grams of margarine

How to prepare the bun dough

Take a large bowl, a small saucepan, a mixer, and a baking tray lined with baking paper – and let’s get started with the gluten-free rolls.

  1. In the mixing bowl, combine the rice flour, cornstarch, potato flour, locust bean gum, baking powder, salt, and baking soda and mix together.
  2. Melt the margarine on low heat and add it to the water. Also, add the vinegar.
  3. Gradually add the liquid ingredients to the dry flour mixture. Meanwhile, stir the batter.
  4. You now have a relatively moist dough, which you take out of the bowl and place on the work surface in front of you. Sprinkle them with flour beforehand.
  5. Divide the dough into about eight equal parts and shape it into balls.
  6. Place the bun balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. If you want, you can score at the top.
  7. Set the oven to 200 degrees top and bottom heat and bake the rolls for 30 minutes.
