Grandma's pea soup with Vienna sausages

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 100 g bacon, streaky, smoked
  • 1 bunch of soup vegetables
  • 400 g potatoes
  • 1 onion(s)
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 200 g peas, green, dried
  • 1 bay leaf
  • some marjoram, dried
  • some salt and pepper
  • Vienna sausages, 4 – 8 pieces

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 2 hours; Total time approx. 2 hours 30 minutes

Cut the bacon into strips. Clean or peel the vegetables, rinse, and dice finely. Peel and rinse the potatoes, and also dice finely. Peel and finely dice the onion. Heat the oil in a casserole dish and fry the bacon. Then add the peas and bay leaf, pour in 1 1/2 liters of water, and cover and simmer the soup for about 2 hours. Thirty minutes before the end of the cooking time, add the diced vegetables and the diced potatoes. Season the stew with salt, pepper, and marjoram, add the Vienna sausages, and heat through.
