Grandma’s Sauerkraut

The perfect grandma’s sauerkraut recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

Mashed potatoes

  • 1 piece Onion
  • 1 pack Smoked bacon
  • 5 piece Juniper berries
  • 1 pinch Salt / pepper / caraway seeds
  • 4 piece Smoked Mettwurst
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • 400 g Potatoes
  • 1 pinch Salt and pepper
  • 1 shot Milk or cream
  • 1 tbsp Parsley
  • 1 pinch Freshly grated nutmeg
  1. Peel and dice the onions, fry with butter and bacon. Drain the sauerkraut and add to the pot. Add 2 cups of water and the juniper berries and simmer
  2. Peel and wash the potatoes, halve them in a saucepan with water, bring them to a boil and cook until they can be mashed as usual. Season with the spices, milk and butter and garnish with parsley.
  3. Put the sausages in the sauerkraut pot for about 5 minutes and let them cook. Remove the juniper berries and season the sauerkraut with the spices. If you like, you can add caraway. Good Appetite
