Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 50 g butter
  • 750 g potatoes, cut into very thin slices
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 150 g double cream
  • Salt
  • pepper
  • Nutmeg, freshly grated

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Preheat oven to 170 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit). Grease a shallow, ovenproof dish with half the butter. Place the potato slices in a colander and rinse thoroughly under running water. Drain and dry on kitchen paper. Layer the potato slices in the dish, season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg, and sprinkle a little garlic between each layer. Pour the double cream evenly over the potatoes and scatter the remaining butter on top. Bake uncovered for 1.5–2 hours, until the potatoes are tender.
