vegetarian side dish for grilling

We serve grilled onions as a side dish for barbecues. Since the onions are very large, they should be pre-cooked. To do this, I cut a cross-shaped incision in the top of the peeled onion, roughly halfway through. Then I microwave it in a suitable container for 2.5-3 minutes on high. In the meantime, I prepare a piece of aluminum foil, which I fold in half and make sure is large enough to enclose the onion. I place the pre-cooked onion on the foil. I sprinkle some salt and the salad dressing into the cuts and over the onion, making sure the powder is evenly distributed. Then I pour the balsamic vinegar, vegetable oil, and finally the caramel syrup over the onion, wrap it tightly in the foil, and place it on the grill with the first food. It should be done halfway through if the heat is good. Note: Caramel syrup can usually be found in the cocktail section of well-stocked supermarkets.
