Growing Mushrooms – The Best Tips

Grow mushrooms – that’s how it works yourself

Mushrooms are available in a wide variety of flavors, and the selection in the supermarkets is just as large. But once you find your favorite variety, you can breed it yourself and save money. Read what you need to watch out for in the following:

  1. Set: The easiest way to grow mushrooms is to buy a complete mushroom growing set. It contains all the important components that you can use for the cultivation. In addition to the right ingredients, you will also receive special instructions that are tailored to the type of mushroom you have purchased. The set is especially useful if you want to grow a large amount of mushrooms. Growing two kilograms within a few months is also possible as a beginner.
  2. Mushroom spawn: If you do not want to buy a set, you can create the mushroom spawn yourself. For this you need a mushroom spawn, which forms the basis for the later mushrooms. You cannot produce the mushroom spawn yourself, because you need very sterile rooms and some basic knowledge. However, you can purchase a Mushroom Spawn and then use it to grow in your home or garden. You can get the mushroom spawn from many sellers on the Internet, the prices vary, so a detailed comparison is worthwhile.
  3. Substrate: If you have obtained a spawn of mushrooms, you need a substrate on which to start the spawn. Logs or individual wooden discs are well suited for this. But straw or even flour can also be used as a basis.
  4. Tip: the greater the volume and weight of the selected body, the more mushrooms you will get. If you choose a carrier with a small volume, you can harvest the mushrooms faster.
  5. Location: You can grow your mushroom cultures both indoors and in the garden. Indoors you have the advantage of being able to breed all year round, outdoors it is only possible in the warmer months. Good conditions are temperatures between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius. The selected location should also be bright, but without direct sunlight. When the first mushrooms have grown, you should put them in a darker place. The basement is well suited for this, but it must not be too cold.
  6. Care: Keep the young cultures slightly moist, for example with a spray bottle. Plant the mushrooms outside, and pay attention to the amount of rain that occurs. If it has rained for several days, you do not need to water the mushrooms for a while. If you want to determine the amount of water yourself, you should protect the mushrooms from the rain with a small construction made of wood and plastic foil.
Harvest: Once the mushrooms have reached a suitable size, you can harvest them. When harvesting, a mushroom knife is a good help, with it you can easily and cleanly cut off the mushrooms. Then clean the mushrooms and prepare them so that they can be eaten.
