Gyros in Metaxa sauce

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 500 g gyros meat
  • 2 bell peppers
  • 200 ml cream
  • 200 g sour cream
  • 4 tbsp Metaxa
  • salt and pepper
  • 3 tbsp tomato paste
  • some sugar
  • 200 g cheese, grated
  • 1 onion(s)
  • Paprika powder, sweet
  • n. B. Oil
  • 1 garlic clove(s), crushed

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 35 minutes; Total time approx. 55 minutes

Brown the gyro meat in hot oil. Dice the onion and bell peppers. Add the onion, bell pepper, and crushed garlic clove to the meat and fry briefly. Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and a little sugar. Then add the sour cream, cream, tomato paste, and Metaxa and bring to a simmer. Transfer the meat mixture to a baking dish and sprinkle with cheese. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (top/bottom heat) for about 20 minutes, until the cheese is golden brown. Serve with rice or fries and salad.
