Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 500 g ham sausage
  • 1 onion(s)
  • 300 g white cabbage
  • 10 mushrooms
  • 1 bell pepper(s), red
  • 10 gherkins
  • 300 g peas, frozen
  • 8 tbsp oil
  • 1 jar Ajvar, hot
  • 1 jar Hungarian-style paprika sauce
  • salt and pepper
  • Paprika powder
  • chili powder
  • 150 g rice

Instructions

Working time approx. 40 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 10 minutes

Dice the ham sausage, onion, white cabbage, and bell pepper. Slice the mushrooms and gherkins. In a pot, fry the ham sausage, onion, and white cabbage in oil until hot. Reduce the heat and add all the other ingredients. Simmer for 5-10 minutes. Season with salt, paprika, and chili powder. Add about 2-3 liters of water, depending on how thick or runny you want the soup, and simmer for about 10 minutes with the ajvar and paprika sauce. I use about 150g of rice and simmer it with the other ingredients. We like the soup thick and spicy. Tip: You can also add pasta or potatoes to the soup, depending on your taste.
