Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 1 jar fish fillet(s) (herring fillets), pickled, with onions
  • 1 jar beetroot, sliced
  • 1 jar gherkins (small gherkins)
  • 2 apples, peeled
  • 1 slice(s) cheese (finger-thick slice), mild
  • 3 eggs, hard-boiled, peeled
  • 250 g meat sausage (1 small or 1/2 large ring)
  • 3 large jacket potatoes, boiled, peeled
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 100 g Miracle Whip
  • 100 g walnuts
  • Salt
  • pepper
  • 1 jar sausages (Wiener, also can) or the same amount of Kasseler

Instructions

Working time approx. 45 minutes; Total time approx. 45 minutes

Collect the liquid from the gherkins, beetroot, and herring fillets. Cut all ingredients into small cubes, place in a bowl, and mix together. Mix the sour cream, mayonnaise, salt, pepper, and the collected liquid into a sauce and pour it over the mixture. Let it sit overnight. Season again the next day, if desired. Note: A must on Christmas Eve with sausages and/or smoked pork—be sure to let it sit overnight!
