Homemade lard

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 1 kg fat (spinned)
  • 1 m.-sized apple
  • 1 m.-sized onion(s)

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 25 minutes; Total time approx. 55 minutes

Place the puff pastry in a pot and cook over medium heat. Meanwhile, peel the apple and cut it into small pieces. Peel the onion and also dice it. Add both to the liquid lard and simmer until the apples and onions are slightly browned. Pour the liquid into a container. Either strain it through a sieve or—if you prefer—leave the cracklings, onions, and apples in. The container should be made of stoneware if possible, because the lard will be very hot. It tastes delicious with sauerkraut, kale, red cabbage, or simply on fresh bread with salt.
