Honeydew Melon – Sweet And Juicy Gourd

Botanically, the honeydew melon is a cucurbit. Nevertheless, it is understood as a fruit. There are several species, the color of which can vary from whitish to light green. In most cases, however, it is yellow and smooth or has a slightly warty surface. Underneath is light-colored pulp, in the center of which the seeds accumulate in a cavity. The honeydew melon reaches a length of 15-30 cm.

Origin

The origin of the honeydew melon is believed to be in Africa. Today it is mainly grown in China, Spain, Italy, and Greece.

Season

Honeydew melon is in high season from May to October. However, thanks to imports from abroad, it is available from us all year round.

Due to their firm and quite robust skin, whole honeydew melons can be kept refrigerated for up to two weeks without any problems. Cut fruit should be stored in cling film in the refrigerator and consumed within 2-3 days.
