How Do You Open a Coconut?

Spread the love

In order to be able to open a coconut, you need a pointed object such as a corkscrew or a screwdriver and a hammer. There are three indentations on one side of the coconut. Drill a hole in the largest indentation with a pointed object and pour the coconut water into a glass. This will be easier if you drill a second hole in one of the other indentations.

Now feel with your fingers along the long side of the fruit along the seam to its thickest point in the middle. At this so-called equator, the fruit breaks apart most easily. Place the coconut on a hard, non-sensitive surface and hit the spot you felt with a hammer until the coconut breaks apart.

The flesh can then be detached from the hard shell with a knife. This is even easier if you heat the opened coconut in the oven at 180 degrees Celsius for about 15 minutes. You can also remove the pulp from smaller pieces of coconut by placing the pieces in the freezer for 30 minutes.
