The small balls, which taste like nuts, belong to the legumes: they should never be eaten raw, only cooked. You have the choice between already pre-cooked canned goods or dried chickpeas, which you have to soak and then cook yourself.

Note: Our information regarding nutritional values ​​and dietary fiber always refers to dried legumes. In the case of the variant that has already been cooked, the corresponding values ​​​​are about a third of them – after all, the water content must be taken into account.

Chickpea has a bit of everything to offer, which makes it a very healthy food not only for those who eat vegetarian or vegan food. The plant-based food supplies your body with valuable protein, healthy fats, and high-quality carbohydrates. The versatile legumes contain:

  • 20 grams of protein
  • 6 to 7 grams of fat
  • 45 grams of carbohydrates, including about 3 grams of sugar

With an energy content of around 350 kilocalories, chickpeas are not lightweight, but they keep you full for a long time and can prevent food cravings.

Fiber

15.5 grams – that’s how high the proportion of digestive fiber in legumes is. The recommended daily dose for an adult is at least 30, better still 40 grams, and is not difficult to achieve with chickpeas in combination with other high-fiber foods. The high fiber content ensures a good feeling of satiety and a stable blood sugar level.

Vitamins

When it comes to the vitamin content, chickpea doesn’t need to hide either. The small legumes not only contain vitamins C and E, but also vitamin A1, various vitamins from the B group, and folic acid, which is also part of this complex. As you can see, chickpea is a real vitamin cocktail!
