Dry ice – that’s how long it lasts
Dry ice is a really handy invention, but you need to be careful when handling the coolant.
- Dry ice can have a temperature as low as minus 78 degrees. That’s good for cooling, but not entirely safe for you. If you come into contact with the dry ice, this can quickly lead to severe cold burns.
- Furthermore, you should not store dry iron in closed rooms. If the dry ice evaporates, the released CO2 can be deadly.
- The shelf life of the dry ice also depends to a large extent on how it is stored. Stable styrofoam boxes are ideal for storing dry ice. The better the box is filled, the longer the dry ice will last. You should also open the styrofoam box as rarely as possible.
- If you ensure optimal storage conditions, the dry ice can be kept for around 48 hours. From the second day, the cooling through the natural evaporation process already decreases significantly. The ice cream is then no longer suitable for very sensitive foods.
- Note: The dry ice must not be stored in a cool box, as the box could burst.
