Ingredients for 4 servings:
- 200 g basmati rice
- 1 small onion(s), cut into thin half rings
- 1 tbsp clarified butter
- 1 small garlic clove(s), squeezed
- 1 tsp ginger, finely chopped or grated
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 pinch of cumin powder
- 1 tsp. clove powder or 2 cloves, finely ground
- ½ tsp cardamom powder or cardamom seeds, finely ground
- ½ tsp cinnamon powder
- 1 pinch of ground pepper
- 375 ml water
Instructions
Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes
Sauté the onion rings in clarified butter over medium heat for about 5 minutes. Add the ginger, garlic, salt, all other spices, and the rice and cook vigorously over high heat for about 1 minute, stirring frequently. Deglaze with water, cover, and cook on low heat until the water is absorbed and the rice is tender (about 15-20 minutes).
