An espresso is considered a healthy coffee specialty that – especially among Italians – can be drunk at any time. The highly concentrated coffee actually comes with some health benefits. But the same applies here: the quantity makes the difference.

When consumed in moderation, espresso is healthy for the cardiovascular system

For many coffee lovers, an espresso is a must after a meal. The small drink promises an intense taste thanks to the concentrated aroma. In fact, espresso has several advantages over regular filter coffee.

  • On the one hand, espresso is gentler on the stomach than classic coffee. Due to the special roasting of the beans, espresso contains less acid, which is particularly beneficial for sensitive stomachs. In addition, the brewing process, in which water is pressed into the powder at high pressure, means that fewer irritants and bitter substances get into the espresso.
  • On the other hand, espresso is not only gentle on the stomach, but also promotes digestion. The drink stimulates digestion after eating, which can prevent a feeling of fullness.
  • An espresso is also said to have a positive effect on the heart. According to a study, espresso inhibits calcification in the arteries, which in turn reduces the risk of a heart attack or stroke. According to another study, people who drink espresso regularly should even have a longer life expectancy.
  • Despite all the advantages mentioned, you should not consume espresso in large quantities. More than four cups of the caffeinated beverage per day is not recommended. Those who consume too much caffeine risk, among other things, insomnia or cardiac arrhythmia.
  • By the way: You can also eat espresso coffee beans like this. When raw, they are particularly rich in vitamins. However, the beans are more aromatic and digestible when roasted. Since the espresso beans contain caffeine, they should be eaten in moderation – the beans covered with chocolate are particularly tasty. 15 to 25 coffee beans contain the same amount of caffeine as a cup of espresso.
