Toast bread – that’s why the bread is unhealthy
Crispy toast, fresh from the toaster, is part of breakfast for many people.
- Even if the toast tastes good, the bread is not healthy.
- This is not only because this soft white bread contains hardly any fiber.
- Toast bread is hardly filling. That means you need to eat more slices of toast to feel full.
- Since toast bread is usually lavishly topped with the sandwich, a few calories come together here.
- In addition, unlike most other types of bread, toast bread contains sugar and often preservatives. The sugar content makes toast bread high in calories.
Whole wheat toast isn’t much healthier
Whole grain products are generally considered healthy.
- Compared to light toast bread, this also applies to wholemeal toast.
- After all, whole grains are processed — which means a certain amount of fiber. However, the fiber content of whole grain toast is not nearly as high as that of whole grain bread.
- Wholemeal toast also contains sugar and preservatives.
- If you don’t want to give up your crispy toast for breakfast just yet, you shouldn’t toast it too darkly. As with grilling, avoid dark or black spots when toasting bread.
- These then contain acrylamide. According to a 2010 study, the substance increases the risk of ovarian and endometrial cancer.
