Ingredients for 5 servings:

  • 1 kg chicken breast fillet(s)
  • 4 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tbsp gyro seasoning
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 cans of tomatoes, peeled and diced (400 ml each)
  • 2 tbsp, heaped oregano, dried
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp, heaped sugar

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Rest time approx. 3 hours; Cooking/baking time approx. 40 minutes; Total time approx. 3 hours 50 minutes

In a bowl, combine the olive oil, gyro seasoning, and salt. Dice the chicken breasts and add them to the marinade. Mix thoroughly and marinate at room temperature for at least 3 hours. You can also marinate the meat the night before and refrigerate overnight. Then remove it from the refrigerator at least 2 hours before preparation. Heat a pan and, without any additional oil, brown the meat in batches on all sides. Set aside. Add the tomatoes, oregano, salt, and sugar to the same pan and bring to a boil. Bring to a boil and simmer uncovered for about 20 minutes. Then add the browned meat, mix thoroughly with the tomatoes, and simmer gently for another 3-5 minutes. I served it with some tzatziki and bread.
