Lemon – So Sour, So Good

Lemons are citrus fruits and therefore contain vitamin C like oranges. They are light green to light yellow in color and oval in shape. Its flesh is light yellow and very acidic. Lemons also usually have seeds that should not be eaten.

Origin

Lemons are native to China

Season

Lemons are commercially available all year round. They come from Spain from October to July and then from overseas.

Taste

The fruits taste sour and refreshing at the same time.

Use

Lemon juice and lemon peel from organic fruits are used for cooking and baking – our lemon tiramisu recipe or our recipe for original lemon curd serve as proof, for example. A few squirts of lemon juice spice up water. Lemon juice also prevents cut fruit from turning brown when sprinkled over it. Lemon peel oil is used to make liqueur. The well-known hot drink “Hot Lemon” – a mixture of hot water, lemon juice and, if necessary, sugar or honey – is a popular home remedy for colds. Lemon water is also said to be healthy, skin and hair can be cared for with lemon oil.

Storage

Lemons contain a lot of acid, so they stay fresh for a long time. The fruit will keep for several weeks at room temperature, and even longer in the fridge.
