Ingredients for 10 servings:

  • 1 kg lentils
  • 1 ½ kg potatoes
  • 1 kg smoked meat, streaky
  • 2 onions
  • 2 carrots
  • 2 stalk(s) celery
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 5 juniper berries
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 bunches of parsley
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 45 minutes; Total time approx. 55 minutes

Wash the lentils and place them in a pot of cold water. Add the bay leaves, juniper berries, and peppercorns to the lentils and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes. Dice the smoked meat. Peel and finely dice the onions, carrots, and celery stalks. Heat the oil in a pot, brown the smoked meat, and briefly add the vegetables. Peel and dice the potatoes. Add the potatoes and the fried ingredients to the lentils and simmer for another 20 minutes. Season the lentils with salt and pepper.
