Losing weight with corn seems like a good idea because of the multitude of vitamins and minerals it contains. Nevertheless, you should avoid the golden grain in a diet as far as possible. The reason is the high percentage of starch in the sweet grains.
Losing weight with corn is not a good idea
Corn is one of the healthiest grains because it is rich in vitamins and minerals. Nevertheless, the yellow grain is not a good diet aid.
- If you want to lose weight, you should eat lots of fruit and vegetables. Grains, mainly whole grains, should also be on the menu. Corn is considered a very healthy and gluten-free grain. However, it is not suitable for losing weight. The reason is the strength strongly represented in it.
- Starch is a complex sugar that gives corn a glycemic index of 70. As a result, the blood sugar level first rushes up quickly and then just as quickly back down. The result is unpleasant food cravings.
- However, you do not have to do without the yellow grain completely during a diet. You should consume the grain in moderation and preferably unprocessed, for example in a salad. Because: corn not only contains a lot of starch, but is also rich in fiber (ten grams per 100 grams), which is good for digestion.
- In addition, corn is a real vitamin bomb containing vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, E and folic acid. Corn also contains many minerals, including potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, sodium, zinc, iron and selenium. On top of that come essential amino acids like leucine, valine, phenylalanine, isoleucine and threonine.
- The corn kernels are not as rich in protein and fat with 9 grams and 1.5 grams per 100 grams, respectively. But the other vitamins and minerals make up for it.
