Make Brittle Yourself: The Best Tips

Did you know that you can easily make brittle yourself? This is not only cheaper but also makes an ideal gift for family and friends. To ensure that your DIY brittle is a success, we will explain what you should consider when preparing it.

Make the brittle yourself – that’s how it works

Brittle is very easy to make yourself if you pay attention to a few things. We explain what you need and what is important.

  • What you will need: 90 grams of sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoons of butter, 90 grams of chopped nuts of your choice, parchment paper, a skillet, and a rolling pin
  • Put the sugar in a pan and let it caramelize on low. Mix in the sugar only when it has completely melted. It is best to use a wooden spoon for this.
  • When the sugar is fully caramelized, you should quickly add the nuts and mix them thoroughly with the caramel. Alternatively, you can also use oatmeal or sunflower seeds.
  • Caution: Don’t let the sugar get too brown! Otherwise, it tastes very bitter. Immediately clean any utensils that have come into contact with the caramelized sugar.
  • Place the mixture on a piece of parchment paper and flatten it with a wooden spoon. Cover the mass with another piece of baking paper and roll it out with a rolling pin.
  • Work very quickly with these steps. If the caramel sets, you cannot process it further.
  • Put the brittle in a cool place for 2 hours. Before you can process it further, it must be fully cured.
  • Using a sharp knife, cut the brittle into 2 cm thick slices. Put them in an airtight package. The brittle can be kept for several months in a dark, dry, and cool place.
  • If you pack the brittle in stylish glasses, it is the perfect gift for the next party with family and friends.
