You can easily make chili flakes at home. You only need a few ingredients to make it. You can then use the homemade chili flakes for delicious hot dishes.

Make your own chili flakes from dried chilies

You can season many different dishes with chili flakes. You can not only buy these ready-made but also make them yourself. You only need 250 grams of dried chilies for this.

  • First of all, it is important that the chilies no longer contain any residual moisture. If this is the case, you have to dry the chilies in the oven at 60 degrees for about half an hour.
  • You can use a mortar and pestle to crush the dried chili flakes. You also have the option of chopping the chilies with a knife or in a blender.
  • Then fill the finished chili flakes into a sealable jar and keep them in a dry place. This way they can be stored for several years.

Make chili flakes from fresh chilies

If you want to work with fresh chilies, you need about 500 grams of them.

  • In order to be able to process the fresh chilies into flakes, you must first dry them.
  • This works best in the oven. Put the chilies in the oven at around 60 degrees for four hours. Larger chilies may take a little longer to dry completely.
  • As soon as the chilies are dry, you can process them into chili flakes as described above and then store them in sealable jars.
