Make Fries Yourself: That’s How Works

Make fries yourself – that’s how it works

To make fries yourself, you need two people: three large potatoes, salt, kitchen paper, and 1 liter of oil or 0.8 to 1 kilogram of frying fat.

  • To make fries from potatoes, you must first peel them, wash them well and then place them in a bowl of cold water.
  • Then remove the potatoes one by one and cut them first into slices, then into strips of any size.
  • Put the cut potatoes back into the cold water to prevent brown discoloration.
  • Meanwhile, you can heat the frying fat or oil in a tall saucepan. The temperature should reach around 180 degrees, which you can tell by bubbling up on a wooden skewer.
  • Instead of a pot, you can also use an electric deep fryer and let the oil heat up there.
  • Now take the potato sticks out of the water and dry them well with kitchen paper.
  • Now you can add a portion of potatoes to the oil with a slotted spoon and pre-fry for two to three minutes.
  • If you then take the potato pieces out again and, after letting them cool down, put them back in the oil for five to six minutes, the fries will be even crispier and golden brown than if you fry them directly for 7 to 8 minutes.
  • Finally, all you have to do is put all the finished fries in a bowl and mix them with salt to taste. You can also use other spices.

Alternatively: you can also prepare fries in the oven

An even healthier, the low-fat alternative is oven-baked fries. Here, too, you need three potatoes for two people, a tablespoon of oil, a teaspoon of sweet paprika, and baking paper.

  • Wash, peel and cut the potatoes as described in the previous paragraph. Here, however, you can skip the bowl of water and the more laborious drying.
  • Put the ready-cut potato pieces in a bowl and mix them after adding a little salt, oil, paprika, or any other spices.
  • Then spread the finished fries on a tray lined with baking paper and bake them in a preheated oven at 200 degrees or at 175 degrees with convection.
  • After about ten minutes you should turn the potatoes once. In total, it takes half an hour for the fries to be ready.
