Make Peanut Butter Yourself – That’s How It Works

Peanut Butter – the ingredients and tools

To make your own peanut butter, you need a few ingredients and supplies. You should get the following utensils and groceries in advance if you want to make at least 300 grams of peanut butter yourself:

  • You need 230 to 250 grams of unsalted and roasted peanuts. You also need one to two tablespoons of agave syrup and some salt. The salt should be as fine as possible, table salt is ideal for this. At least three tablespoons of peanut oil are recommended for the smooth consistency, but you can also use sunflower oil.
  • You need a hand mixer, a tablespoon, and a suitable glass in which you can fill the peanut butter. Mason jars are well suited. If you want to roast the peanuts yourself, you need a suitable pan. Also, have a bowl ready to prepare the peanut butter in.

Make peanut butter yourself – that’s how it works

Once you have the ingredients ready, you can begin. Adjust the amounts accordingly if you want to make more peanut butter. However, the production is the same. This is the best way to proceed:

  1. Place the peanuts in the bowl with the other ingredients. Then turn on the blender and mix the ingredients. The longer you use the blender, the smaller the peanut pieces will be.
  2. Tip: If your blender isn’t powerful enough, you’ll need to chop the peanuts up a bit first. You can use a kitchen hammer for this, for example: Place the peanuts in a clean kitchen towel, fold it up and place the towel on a firm surface. Then, very slowly, pound the peanuts smaller.
  3. After mixing and chopping the mass, turn off the blender. Now check if the peanut butter is too thick. In this case, you can add a little more oil and mix it in again with the mixer. Once you are happy with the consistency, you can pour in the peanut butter.
  4. Take the tablespoon and pour the peanut butter into the mason jars. If you roasted the peanuts yourself, they will still be hot and the butter will be slightly runny. Then you only need the tablespoon to remove the last bits from the bowl.
  5. Peanut butter should always be stored in the fridge. It can be kept there for six to eight weeks.
