Make vanilla pudding yourself – that’s how it works
If you want to make vanilla pudding yourself, you don’t need any special cooking skills – the recipe is very simple.
- First, take about seven tablespoons of the milk and stir in the sugar and cornstarch – as smooth as possible and without lumps.
- Now separate the egg – there’s a very simple trick for this – and stir the egg yolk into the milk-sugar-starch mixture. You don’t need the egg white for the pudding.
- In the next step, scrape out the vanilla pod and add the pulp to the rest of the milk. Now heat them up. Tip:
- Rinse the pot with cold water beforehand to avoid burning the milk. By the way: We explain the effect of vanilla on health and psyche in another home tip. Also, don’t throw away the scraped vanilla bean. With it, you can easily make vanilla sugar yourself.
- When the milk is hot, add the milk-sugar-starch-egg mixture and bring everything to a boil while stirring constantly with a whisk until the pudding has set. Tip: Of course, you can try in between. But then use a fresh spoon each time – otherwise, the pudding will become liquid again. Saliva contains an enzyme that breaks down starch.
- Now you can take the pudding off the stove and fill it in bowls or glasses to cool.
- If the pudding has become too liquid, there is no reason to panic. In this case, whip 200 grams of cream until stiff and fold it into the dessert – it’s just how you want it.
