Tomato sauce is very easy to make yourself. In this practical tip, we present a basic recipe that is perfect as pasta or pizza sauce. You only need a few ingredients, most of which you already have at home.

Make tomato sauce yourself – that’s how it works

If you are tired of ready-made sauces for pasta and pizza, then we can help with our recipe! The basic recipe for our tomato sauce is easy and quick to make.

  • Ingredients for four people: An onion, a clove of garlic, a tin of chopped tomatoes or a pack of tomato passata, some tomato paste, a tablespoon of olive oil, a teaspoon of dried oregano, a teaspoon of dried basil, salt, and pepper, sugar, possibly some milk
  • First, peel the onion and garlic and finely dice the cloves. Both are sautéed in a pan with a little olive oil until translucent.
  • Then add the canned tomatoes. If you don’t like chunks of tomato in your sauce, you can use tomato passata as an alternative. For a stronger tomato flavor, add tomato paste if you like.
  • Mix everything together well and bring the sauce to a boil. Then taste the tomato sauce with salt, pepper, sugar, and herbs. If you like it a little creamier, you can add some milk.
  • Tip: The basic recipe can be refined and expanded as desired. Would you like a meat-side dish? Then fry ham cubes or small meatballs together with onion and garlic. If you don’t like meat, you can also add chopped zucchini and grated carrots.
