for all marzipan fans – not only at Christmas time

Sift flour onto a baking board. Cut the marzipan and butter into small pieces and spread over the dough. Sprinkle half of the sugar and salt over the dough and chop everything into crumbs with a large knife. Quickly knead with cool hands into a smooth shortcrust pastry, wrap it in foil, and chill for 1 hour. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to a thickness of 1.5 cm and place it on half of a greased baking sheet. Use a double-fold of aluminum foil to form a border to prevent the dough from spreading. Prick the dough several times with a fork and bake on the middle rack of an oven preheated to 175°C for 20-25 minutes until light golden. Place the remaining sugar into a deep dish. Cut the warm dough into 6 x 2 cm strips with a sharp knife. Carefully press the sticks into the sugar and let them cool completely on a wire rack. Store in a tightly sealed container between layers of parchment paper. For those with a big sweet tooth: double the amount, then the whole tray will be full and you’ll be able to enjoy it for longer!
