Matjes – Quickie for those in a hurry

Spread the love

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 1 pack of fish fillet(s) (matjes)
  • 1 m.-sized apple
  • 1 m.-sized onion(s)
  • 1 cup of yogurt
  • ½ cup cream
  • 1 pinch(s) of pepper
  • 1 pinch of salt

Instructions

Working time approx. 5 minutes; Total time approx. 5 minutes

Matjes in apple and onion sauce

Using a fine grater, finely grate the apple into two-thirds of its size (this releases the flavor more quickly), as well as the onion. Chop the remaining one-third of the apple and onion into small pieces (so you have something to bite into). Add the cup of yogurt and half a cup of cream and fold in. Season with pepper. If the mixture is too thick, fold in more cream. Cut the herring into pieces, cut about 4-6 pieces from a fillet, and add them. The finely grated apple and onion mixture releases its flavor quite quickly – so let it sit for just about 15 minutes and then serve. Serve with freshly cooked (jacketed) potatoes.
