Milk Goes Sour and Tomatoes Disappear: What to Cook and How to Save Food

The death of food is an unpleasant problem that each of us faces all the time. The reasons may be different, but the solution is one – try to reanimate food and give it a second life.

Food disappearing from the fridge – what to do

Before trying to reanimate products, try to soberly assess their condition. If they have mold, moss, or rottenness, send the food to the garbage without regret. In all other cases, it is pretty realistic to give products a second life.

Fruits and vegetables

If you find that apples have darkened and begun to rot, cut off all the problem areas and make a mashed potato – it can then be added to oatmeal or dough. The same goes for other situations:

  • cucumbers, apples, tomatoes, or carrots have shriveled – immerse in cold salted water for 2-3 hours;
  • Citrus fruits have dried out – cut into slices and put in the freezer, then use in drinks;
  • wilted carrots, radishes, and celery – put them in cold water with potato slices for 2-3 hours.
  • dill, parsley, cilantro “tired” – leave them for 1 hour in a glass with cold water and lemon juice;
  • Leaf lettuce can be put in warm water for 1-2 hours – it will become attractive again.

Useful tip: if the greens have wilted so much that you can’t reanimate them, we recommend making a “spread” for sandwiches. To do this, chop the greens, mix them with butter, and add spices. Then wrap it in clingfilm and put it in the freezer. This can be used for frying, baking, or for breakfast.

Dairy products, bread, and baked goods

Remember that mold on cheese can only be noble if it was originally intended. The white crust on the hard cheese of domestic production – a guarantee of rapid deterioration of the product. And here there are three options:

  • Cut off all unattractive parts of the cheese and use it as an additive during cooking – the flavor will be unforgettable;
  • put a piece of cheese in warm milk for 1-2 hours – it will become softer;
  • Grate the cheese and put it in a bag and use it later for making pasta or sprinkles.

You can do the following with other products:

  • bread is stale – put a colander on a pot of boiling water, put a loaf in it, and cover it, but make sure the water does not get on the bread;
  • The milk has gone sour – bake pancakes or clean the silver.

By the way, you can also marinate meat in stale milk or make a salad dressing on its basis. Gardeners, in turn, believe that the fermented product – an excellent fertilizer for houseplants in the proportion of 1 cup of milk to 2-3 liters of water.
