Mint Syrup – Peppermint Syrup
The perfect mint syrup – peppermint syrup recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.
* Ingredients for 250 ml syrup *
- 25 g Mint – leaves fresh
- 200 g Sugar fine
- 100 g Sugar brown
- 200 Milliliters Water
- 0,5 Lemon, squeezed juice
- Wash the mint, spin dry, remove the leaves from the stem and weigh.
- Mix the mint with 100 g of the sugar to form a paste.
- Mix the mint paste with water and the remaining sugar and lemon juice in a saucepan and slowly bring to the boil. As soon as it boils, simmer for about 10 minutes. If you want to have less lemon flavor, you can add the peel of half a lemon or leave it out completely. 😉
- After it has simmered and to get a more intense taste, let the mint steep in the pot for 2-3 hours. Then heat again briefly while stirring, so that it can be better drained / filtered, through a fine sieve, into a container. You don’t have to let it go!
- Now fill into a sterilized bottle by placing a tea filter / coffee filter in a sieve and then placing it over a funnel to filter.
- If you want to achieve a color like that of bought syrup, you have to work with food coloring, which I have avoided. 😉 This syrup is very tasty and versatile. E.g. for soft drinks, cocktails, tea, ice cream, sorbet, dessert, pastries and sauces
