Noodle as a Straw: These Are The Pros and Cons

Noodles as a straw: That’s what’s behind it

In 2018, the future use of some plastic goods was banned. This also includes the usual plastic straws. Nevertheless, many consumers do not want to do without the straw and more environmentally friendly alternatives were quickly found. One of them is noodles as a substitute for plastic straws.

  • Commercial macaroni is best. These are usually long enough and hollow on the inside.
  • In addition to the noodles, there are numerous other alternatives to the well-known plastic straws. However, the pasta straws seem to be very inexpensive compared to other options.

Benefits of Noodle Straws

There are many advantages to using pasta as a plastic straw substitute. There are special shops that sell pasta straws, but you can also use macaroni from the supermarket.

  • Pasta straws are very eco-friendly as they are made only from durum wheat and water. Therefore, they are 100 percent biodegradable.
  • Noodles are tasteless. For this reason, the taste of your drink is retained!
  • Noodles remain stable in cold drinks as a straw for around an hour and do not soak.

Disadvantages of pasta straws

As with almost everything, there are downsides associated with pasta straws. Consider for yourself how important these disadvantages are for you and whether pasta is still an option for you as a straw.

  • The pasta straws are not reusable. That means you throw away the noodle after each use and have to use a new one next time.
  • Macaroni straws are not intended for hot drinks. Here they become soft after about 20 minutes.
  • Drinking slightly thicker liquids, such as smoothies, can be more tiring with noodles as a straw.
