Okra: This is what makes the vegetable so healthy
You can do a lot of good for your health with your diet. Okra should be a more frequent part of your diet for the following reasons.
- The southern vegetables bring many vitamins with them. In particular, the pods contain relatively high amounts of vitamins A and C, B1, B2, B3, and folic acid.
- The healthy vegetables are not stingy with minerals either. The green okra pods contain a lot of calcium, potassium, and magnesium.
- A balanced diet should contain sufficient trace elements. Here, too, okra is a good supplier of iron, copper, selenium, and zinc.
- Eating okra also helps keep digestion going. The reason for this is the relatively high fiber content of the pods.
- If you also pay attention to your figure in your diet, the okra pod is an ideal food. 100 g of the healthy vegetables bring just 25 kilocalories with them.
Okra and Health
The vegetable pods are helpful in keeping the intestinal flora intact. We will now explain why this is so:
- Okra contains neither unsaturated fatty acids nor cholesterol.
- Cooking okra also releases special mucilage. These are prime food for the beneficial microorganisms in your gut. They promote a healthy intestinal flora and can therefore be helpful in gastrointestinal complaints.
- Important to know: If you suffer from kidney stones, you should not eat okra too often. The vegetables also contain oxalic acid, which promotes the formation of kidney stones.
