Ingredients for 2 servings:
- 1 dash of oil for frying
- 500 g onion(s), peeled and weighed
- 500 g red cabbage, cleaned and weighed
- 1 tbsp, heaped coconut blossom sugar or other type of sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp cumin
- ½ tsp caraway seeds
- 1 tsp spice mix (7 spice powders)
- Salt

Halve the onions and slice crosswise. Don’t shred the cabbage too finely. Heat a good splash of oil in a large pan or pot over medium heat (7 out of 9) and sauté the onions. With this amount, you can put a lid on after about 5 minutes. Stir the onions thoroughly and, when they are translucent, sprinkle with the spices and mix well. Divide the red cabbage into 2 portions and place the first layer on the onions, season generously with salt, and add the second layer. Then put the lid on and reduce the heat further (6 out of 9). Stir everything well after about 5 minutes and cook for about 30 minutes. The cooking time depends on how firm you want the vegetables. For me, this is a complete meal; as a side dish, it was enough for 4 people. GAT members can serve potatoes with it.
