Onion and Rock Candy Stock

The perfect onion and rock candy stock recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

  • 1 piece Onion
  • 250 g Rock sugar brown
  • 500 ml Water
  1. Admittedly, as a child I could never understand how one could scold something like “doing-well”. Onions and rock candy- uh! In the meantime I worry less about the “smell” or the composition, it helps and is good for dry coughs, croup, hoarseness, etc.
  2. Add the 500ml of water with the brown rock candy (I always use the “Grümmel rock candy”, which dissolves faster) and let it boil.
  3. In the meantime, halve the onion (here I take a large vegetable onion) and cut into small pieces, then add to the rock candy water and let simmer for a good 15 minutes.
  4. Pour the brew through a sieve and filter out the onions. So, that’s it, the “cheap”, homemade cough syrup is ready! It is best to sip warm and really “sips” from the tablespoon.
