Onion chutney

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 1 kg onion(s) or shallots
  • 30 g butter
  • 100 g raisins
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp clove(s), ground
  • ½ tsp ground ginger
  • 250 g sugar, brown
  • 150 ml apple cider vinegar
  • 40 g walnuts, roughly chopped
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

sweet and sour

Peel the onions and slice them into strips. Sauté them in butter in a saucepan. When they are translucent, add the raisins, spices, sugar, and vinegar. Season with salt and pepper. Stir well and simmer for at least 45 minutes, until the liquid is gone. Add the walnuts at the end of the cooking time. Let cool or store in jars while still hot and store like jam. The chutney tastes great with bread and cheese, with any kind of pâté, or even with grilled meat.
